Trump was impeached on Wednesday.For the third time in the nation's history, the House of Representatives voted to impeach a sitting president, acting after a daylong debate on whether Trump violated his oath in pressuring Ukraine to damage a political opponent.Trump was impeached on two articles. The first vote, 230-197, accused him of abuse of power and was almost entirely on party lines; it was followed quickly by a second, 229-198, vote accusing the president of obstructing Congress. The one-vote difference was that of Democrat Jared Golden of Maine, who voted yes on abuse of power and no on obstruction.No Republicans voted against Trump. Two Democrats, Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, who is expected to switch parties soon, and Collin Peterson of Minnesota, voted with Republicans against both articles. One Democrat, Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who is running for president, voted "present" on both articles.

You know, it's interesting. While I'm not inclined to attribute the Democrats with intelligence in most matters, it's worth noting that they don't have any strong candidates this election, and they KNOW it.
They are, in fact, utterly devoid of any sort of real leadership. The Republican party isn't much better off here, but the voters at least have rallied around Trump.
After the Democrats (presumably) lose 2020, the blame game and finger-pointing start. It's entirely possible that Pelosi and the other Democrats in power set up this impeachment as a way to deflect blame once that starts.
Or, they really are that rabidly insane. I give it 65-35 in favor of insanity.

...and when the news about impeachment came down, I couldn't stop laughing. Best comedy all year. Hey Dems, that gangrene in your leg is from repeatedly shooting yourself in the foot.
I can't currently remember the official term for it, but this happens often in war. Leaders get so focused on a tactical situation that they lose sight of strategy and then lose the war.
Stalingrad comes to mind. Hitler got so focused on what was supposed to be a side operation of taking the Caucuses & oil fields that he let the Soviets entrap a good part of his army.
They're acting pretty weird, Alyric. Like they only hear half the signal coming in.
There is a constituency out there that is eating this shit up. Twitter LOVES the Impeachmas meme, they're all over it. This is being signal-boosted by the media as hard and loud as possible.
But the Dems are acting as if Twitter is the entire country. Voting to impeach and then not letting the impeachment be tried by the Senate, that's a grandstanding move you pull when you want to jazz up your followers.
They and everyone else know there's nothing there, but it doesn't matter to them because this is all about the flag waving and the balloons and the marching bands.
