Tommy Chong is so happy! |
Notably absent are the zillions of car accidents and hordes of brain-dead zombies shuffling about our ruined cities that we were all warned about right up until the 17th last year. I always thought it was a little suspect that the warnings and the Scientific Studies! all stopped on 10/18/2018, as if somebody threw a switch to turn off whatever was generating them.
But hey, today's a big celebration. So hoist a celebratory joint, take a little puff, and then get the hell back to work. You've got taxes to pay, peons.

...and yet, today's Grope & Flail has a chunk of its business section on how badly botched legalization is.
Turns out that, with the possible exception of Saskatchewan, there is no way for pot growers to go legit. The government is more interested in the paperwork then if the public bothers gets legal product. And, the government acting as a middleman (again, outside of Saskatchewan) makes profit elusive.
How...Canadian. :P
I did a little history search one time, and discovered that the making -illegal- of the Demon Weed was every bit as much a cluster-fuck as our Canadian "legalization".
Pretty much everything to do with cannabis is so fraught with regulation its impossible for the big companies to make money at it. Even at the -amazing- cost of weed at retail and for medical use.
What's happening is the old dope-heads are staying with the illegal side, and medical patients are getting reamed by the legal prices. $45 for 5 grams, that's some friggin' expensive weed right there.
Unfortunately the illegal side, being illegal and all, have a very unwholesome tendency to use pesticides, fungicides, and often they spray the resulting mess with fentanyl. The vaping "crisis" appears to be people vaping illegal weed/artificial THC products with ingredients that turn into hydrogen sulfide with heat. I think that's mustard gas.
So the health-related situation is actually worse than when the weed was illegal, because black-market growers are under pressure to increase yields and decrease costs. Whereas previously they were just stupid, now they're scared and stupid.
All of this is because the government wanted to get into the illegal weed biz and keep all the profit for themselves.
The truth of the matter is that the market for recreational high THC weed is probably fairly small. The demand is medical.
On a totally unrelated note, an ongoing farmer protest you've never heard of, featuring the son-in-law of Killdozer.
Wow. Not a breath in the news. I guess it's really on now, eh?
Oh that's fascinating. A massively popular (over 80% approval) revolt in favor of farmers*, with people from all walks of life going out of their way to assist, and the left's response is to deploy the army to stop them.
What could go wrong?
*Specifically, opposed to overreaching leftist environmental and climate change regulations.
It's quite interesting to see popular opinion in Europe, of all places, turn against the Greenies.
