Greenies want a car-less Europe.

According to this Daily Mail piece, (h/t Small Dead Animals) the EU is planning on banning all "fossil fuel" vehicles from European cities by 2050.

The Commission is calling for a 50 per cent shift away from conventionally fuelled cars in urban areas by 2030, phasing them out altogether in cities by 2050.

Brussels says the aim is also to achieve "essentially CO2-free movement of goods in major urban centres by 2030".

Setting out another major goal, it adds that by 2050 Europe should "move close to zero fatalities in road transport", with an interim target of halving all road casualties by 2020.

In typical dork fashion, one incompetent imbecile spokesman spills the beans on -why- they want to do this.

But EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas defended the green policy drive: "The widely held belief that you need to cut mobility to fight climate change is simply not true.

"Competitive transport systems are vital for Europe's ability to compete in the world, for economic growth, job creation and for people's everyday quality of life."

He insisted: "Curbing mobility is not an option; neither is business as usual. We can break the transport system's dependence on oil without sacrificing its efficiency and compromising mobility. It can be win-win."

I'll just observe that its much easier to control a population when they can't shoot back and they can't run away. The EU has already got the shooting back part handled, now they aim to fix the running away part.  Hitler would approve.

Wow. After reading about this story on the site Drudge linked to, I made the exact same observation to a friend of mine, and I think in exactly the same words.

I get the feeling that the movers and shakers of Europe are looking at that empty cookie jar in the kitchen. You know, the one that's empty because they've been raiding it since about 1950?

They are beginning to feel the fear about what's going to happen when all the masses of asses out there in SixPackLand finally figure out they ain't going to get their cookie in 2014 or 2018, or whenever is finally runs out.

In broke and busted Greece there were people burned alive in a bank when the gubmint announced they were pushing back the retirement age -one year-. I'm sure the Big Kahunas are thinking it'd be nice if they could shut off the internet, stop the trains and buses, and pretty much do in downtown Europe what they are already doing in downtown Libya, Bahrain, Syria and Egypt.

These guys never change, do they?

No, they don't.

Mind you, 40 years of population decline isn't going to leave much of a population to control.

Greetings Anon.

You're right of course about the birth rate. However I think there will be plenty plenty population in need of control in Europe real soon. Just that most of the ones getting "controlled" won't be actual -Europeans-, if you catch my drift.

Given this "ban the car" thing, it will be very convenient to round up anyone or any -group-, and send them off somewhere else. Like a train to Casablanca, the nearest coastline, a newly refurbished Auschwitz... the possibilities are endless.

We already know the Modern Left has been lying about their goals and beliefs regarding feminism, multiculturalism, you name it, this is just more of it.
