The Black Death is alive and well.

Of all the things it sucks to be right about, The fricking Plague is right up at the top.

Black death warning in NINE countries – including Brit holiday hotspots – amid fears PLAGUE could spread on flights from Madagascar

The deadly plague outbreak has struck Madagascar's major cities sparking fears it has yet to 'peak' and could spread into the surrounding region.

Yep, 120 dead so far in that Madagascar outbreak. Pneumonic plague, kills you in two days or so.

Couldn't happen here, you say? Wrong. Totally could.

  1. Question: do we, or the Americans, have any way of identifying a plague victim walking in off the street?

  2. Identify a plague victim. Bubonic, yes, because of the big black welts they get on them. Pneumonic, the airborn version, no. Because they're dead by the time the damage gets visible.

2-11 days from infection it feels like the flu, then it turns into pneumonia and kills you. So it is entirely possible to get on an airplane in Madagascar with a "head cold," infect the whole plane full of people, and be dead three days later.

Fun, eh? Nobody is talking about this either. Don't be around people who recently traveled from Africa.

  3. Just a FYI -- the reason the Los Angeles Parks Dept. occasionally sprays city parks with malathion is to kill fleas on squirrels, because those fleas have been found to carry bubonic plague.
