It could never happen here? Yeah, it could.

During my sojourn in the USA I heard the following statement in many gun-store bull sessions: "Gun confiscation would never work here, because the cops and the Army wouldn't enforce it."  I've heard the same general thing from Canadians regarding all manner of things, from racism to tyranny.  "Nobody would support a government that didn't hold an election!"

The thing I'd like to remind all you tender souls  in the USA and Canada of is, cops and soldiers don't do what's right, they don't do what's in the constitution, they don't do what their morality dictates.  Cops and soldiers do what they are told to do.  That's the first requirement of a military life, following orders.

The right to self-protection is basic for humans. The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

One might doubt the reports of gun confiscation and brutality if they hadn’t been documented on Fox News Channel and ABC News, both of which were on the scene with their cameras.

Other news clips showed Oklahoma National Guard troops aiming combat rifles at New Orleans citizens who were being disarmed, rifles that apparently were loaded and ready to fire.

US military and police, disarming civilians at gun point, during a major breakdown of civil order in which civilians NEEDED a gun, probably for the first time in their lives.  Live on CNN no less.  School bus Ray Nagin should go to jail for that one.

So don't you boys and girls of the Left and the Right tell me it could never happen here, because we are oh so civilized and above that kind of thing.  Sometimes all that's between you and the abyss is cold steel and the will to use it.
